The Art of Filoli - Specialty Tour Training
Winter 2019
This training program will prepare you to give our new Specialty Tour highlighting Filoli fine art collection currently on display downstairs in the House. During this 90-minute specialty tour your group will tour the historic House with a focus on key pieces in Filoli's art collection. Spread across the main rooms of the House, our art collection reaches back to the early 17th century. Thanks to the tastes of both of our families, and ongoing collecting, our art collection is varied and includes a wide range of artists and styles.
Highlights include paintings by John Singer Sargent, Sir Peter Lely, Jan Weenix, Sir William Orpen, Ernest Peixotto, Mary Curtis Richardson, Nelson Shanks, Sir Godfrey Kneller, and many, many more.
Thank you for helping share new information and experiences with our visitors.
The purchase of Specialty Tour tickets does not include admission to Filoli. Admission is required to access Filoli for Specialty Tours. The Art of Filoli Specialty Tour is $10 per guest. This tour is normally given Saturdays at 2 pm during the Summer months, and may also be available by advanced appointment for an additional fee.
Your Instructor
Prior to joining Filoli in 2011, Julie managed the collections of a number of South Bay museums while spending her winters working on expedition in Abydos, Egypt. She holds a B.A. in Art History from Sonoma State University, and a M.A. in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University; where she is also an adjunct lecturer and faculty member in the Museum Studies Program. Julie is also a long-term member of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and the California Association of Museums. She also volunteers on two boards, the Historic House & Site Network (AAM-HHS) and the Bay Area Art Conservation Guild (BAACG).
Julie fell for Filoli during her first visit in 2007. Although her first love is the House and Collections, you will often find her photographing the Garden in the evenings. She is a Bay Area native. When not at Filoli, you are likely to find her in yoga class or jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.
